Surfing the Nor-Cal Coast in Arcata

To celebrate Ian successfully defending his Master's thesis, and just to get away, we took a surf trip to Arcata, California and the surrounding area, including the Redwood National Forest and the quaint town of Trinidad.  The drive was long, and the water was cold, but it was still a beautiful trip.  The Northern California coast is amazing and dramatic, with enormous jagged rock on the beach and giant redwoods just up the hill.  We tried to surf in a gorgeous spot called College Cove, but the waves were rough!  Arcata itself is an interesting town with nice people and shops like the co-op grocery store which sells locally grown and raised products.   We visited during the town fair, which was an array of interesting vendors and organizations set up in the town plaza, and finished with a musical parade.  We loved it!
